Chocolate sponge cake!

Here is a very simple recipe for a deliciously, rich and creamy chocolate sponge cake with whipped cream filling.

Tools for the job:

• Scales
• Grease prof paper
• Spatula
• Whisk
• Electric whisk
• Mixing bowl
• 2 round sandwich cake tins
• Wire rack

For the cake
•225g of margarine
•225g of caster sugar
•4 eggs
•225g of self raising flour
•50g of cocoa powder

For the filling – A pot of 300ml – double cream.

And to dust on the top, a table spoon of icing sugar.

Step one:
Preheat over to 180c/350f/gas mark 4

Then grease the cake tins and line them with the grease prof paper.

Put that to one side and then you are ready for step 2:

After measuring out your ingredients you need to put the margarine in the mixing bowl, add the sugar and mix until it’s all blended in and creamy.

Once that’s done add in the eggs and mix with the whisk. Then sift in and fold the flour until smooth, and do the same with the cocoa powder.

Step 3:
After following them steps the cake mixture should be done now and ready to pour evenly into the two cake tins.

Place them in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes.

After the 25 minutes check to see if they are done by sticking a knife in the middle, if it comes out clean it’s ready if it comes out with cake mix or crumbs then it needs a bit longer…

Step 4:
Now it’s time to let the cake cool down. I leave it in the cake tins for about 5 minutes, then take them out and cool on a wire rack.

Whilst waiting for it to cool down, it’s time to make the filling, you need a mixing bowl and electric whisk to whip the double cream.

Step 5:
once the cake is completely cooled down you can then spread the whipped cream evenly around. I just spoon the cream onto one half of the cake and smooth it round. But alternatively you could use a piping bag if you want to get more technical.

Then place the second half on top and dust a little bit of icing sugar over the top.

And that’s it 5 simple steps to making a delicious chocolate cake!

Hope you enjoy…

Thanks a lot!
