I was bouncing with excitement when an email about a brand new airline, departing from my local airport flew into my inbox recently. Powdair is a brand new, UK airline that will be connecting eight British, European and Swiss airports with Sion, Switzerland from December 2017. Powder are beginning their journey with an Autumn/Winter schedule, running from the 11th of December 2017 to the 16th April 2018 with big plans to create a Summer schedule too! The following airports will be served by Powdair – London City, London Luton, London Southend, Southampton, Bristol, Manchester and Antwerp.
I attended their press launch at the brand new ‘Southampton Harbour Hotel’ recently where I met the Powdair team, who were all so passionate about what they are trying to achieve, all being keen skiers and snowboarders they really know their stuff, I definitely learnt a lot about skiing and Switzerland in particular and have now added this to my never ending travel bucket list. Powder’s aim is to connect you and your favourite Swiss ski resort such as Verbier, Crans Montana, Anzère, Nendaz, Thyon 4 Vallées (Val D’Herens), Portes du Soleil (France and Switzerland) and Zermatt via Sion Airport at the very heart of the Valais region rather than having those dreaded 2 or 3 hour transfer journeys across Switzerland, giving you more of those all important hours to ski!
The Capital of the Swiss Valais region, Sion is situated in the heart of the South West of Switzerland. Famous not only for an awesome Skii Resorting location with over 36 different ski resorts, offering over 200km pristine pistes. But also for the Swiss Beauties the Twin Castles ‘Valère’ and ‘Tourbillon’ sat on beautiful Glaciers, along with the quaint and quirky little towns with shops, cathedrals and churches and of course classical Swiss vineyards. Sion is a travel bucket list must!
Although flying with Powdair into Sion, takes you straight to the heart of the Valais and allows you to avoid the long transfer journeys, you will need to arrange transport to your accommodation from the airport. Powdair offer a transfer vehicle straight from the Sion Airport terminal, just metres from the baggage carousel, steps from passport control and seconds from the airport exit. Providing multiple options, either a ride in a private Tesla transfers or on a shared mini-bus, you can arrange all of your transport directly with Powdair – Travel has never seemed so simple!
The Team went into a lot of detail about how hard they have worked to build fantastic relationships with the businesses over in Switzerland, ensuring that Powdair can offer much more than just flights, they want to provide all the best information and deals for their customers as possible. The aircrafts carry 50 people, your 23kg hold luggage is included in the cost of your flight with free ski and snowboard carriage, discounted prices for children and under 2s go free, not to mention their ‘frequent flyers’ season ticket. You can see all this for yourself by visiting their website here where you can book flights, learn all about Sion and the Valais, book your transfer vehicle and you can check out their flight timetable, which they have created with short breaks in mind, knowing that a lot of people often go for weekend breaks too!
I have never personally been skiing, however I have friends who ski regularly and I know how the price can build up with flights, ski luggage, accommodation, equipment etc… Powdair flights seem a really reasonable price, the cheapest from Southampton being £158 one way, the ticket includes your 23kg luggage allowance and free ski and snowboard carriage.
The ‘Frequent Flyers Season Ticket’ is great value for avid skiers. Making your ski trips as easy and affordable as possible. With the season ticket you pay for a block of tickets – giving you 20% off of 10, 20, 30 books of tickets, allowing you to block book a quantity of flights in advance for you and family & friends. You can find out all the details of the season ticket over on the Powdair Website and order your season ticket online, as seats are limited.
Whether you are an avid skier or like me have never touched a ski in your life, Powdair welcome everyone and want to take everyone over to experience the beautiful Valais in Sion. There really are resorts and options for everyone, families, beginners, experts and even people not into skiing.
I am super excited for Powdair to take off on the 11th of December and also to book a trip to the Sion Valais, embarking on my first ever *attempt* ski adventure in the near future! Make sure you go and check their website and social media pages out for more info and to book your flights!
